You’d batter believe pancake day. To help you make the right decision on where to eat out, we tested several spots around the capital. Here’s four options for a flipping good one…

Where The Pancakes Are
📍Arch 35a, 85a Southwark Bridge Road, London, SE1 0NQ
💰£10.50

If you find yourself wandering the streets of London Bridge or Bankside, you’ll find this not-so-traditional pancake house a stone’s throw away at the Flat Iron Square development. We couldn’t resist the savoury Welsh Rarebit, which consisted of two pancakes topped with melted mature cheddar, ale and grilled spring onion and served with vinegar crisps. The pancakes were thick American style, yet light, moist and held their shape well considering they were also covered in melted cheese, and the mix of mature cheddar and vinegar crisps made our mouths tingle in the best possible way!

Fuwa Fuwa
📍Unit 8, Brunswick Centre, Bloomsbury, London WC1N 1AE
💰£8-11

SO FLUFFY WE’RE GONNA DIE! Meaning ‘fluffy’ in Japanese, the UK’s first Japanese soufflé pancakes certainly live up to the name…how can you go wrong with a tower of light and airy soufflé pancakes drizzled in syrup and dolloped with cream? Both in taste and texture these are a winner, but be prepared for some serious food envy while you wait as they can take up to 20 minutes to prepare…

Cakes & Bubbles
📍70 Regent St, Soho, London W1B 4DY
💰£14

You can have your cake and then some at Cakes & Bubbles, the first permanent restaurant outside of Spain from the three-Michelin-starrred elBulli pasty chef, Albert Adria! We tried the signature ‘Air-Pancake’ filled with yoghurt foam and maple syrup butter. As the name suggests, this is no ordinary pancake…the crispy exterior had a similar caramelisation to that of creme brulee and the yoghurt foam inside (piped with gas) was very light, with more intensity than you’d expect. The maple syrup butter was everything you’d expect it to be and the blueberry compote on the side if you need it was a nice touch. This indulgent option is definitely one for those looking to mark the occasion in style…

Crepe Affaire
📍82 Chiswick High Road, London W4 5TF
💰£5.75

Although it’s a chain, we were really impressed by the quality of these pancakes! We opted for the Apple Crumble with cinnamon apple, sultanas, butterscotch sauce and a crumble topping. The pancake itself had a nice thickness and was freshly cooked. The sweetness of the butterscotch and sultana was complimented well with the acidity of the apple. The restaurant itself had a nice spacious blend of natural/industrial design, which made the pancake a little more enjoyable to eat…
