Founded by husband and wife team Makda & Jack Harlow, they opened their first site in 2015 at Hackney’s Netil Market, combining Eritrean spices and recipes with street food staples like tacos, wings and fries. So successful were those tacos that they soon became their signature.
In July 2019 they opened Taqueria Africana; a pop-up restaurant that has allowed them to develop the taqueria concept further. Expect all the flavours of Eritrean cuisine; the fiery red spice mix ‘berbere’, delicately spiced clarified butter ‘tesmi’ and ubiquitous fermented sour flatbread ‘injera’ ... but served in a very different way. Look out for dishes like Korosho Tostadas, made from crispy injera, and their signature Injera Tacos.
