Karan grew up in Mumbai and travelled vastly across the country with his family while growing up. From the age of five Karan would assist his family cook rolling chapattis in their kitchen. In 2005, he moved to England where he studied law at the University of Cambridge and later worked as a Solicitor at a Magic Circle firm in the City of London.
Even as a practicing lawyer, Karan’s passion for food and hospitality never faded and he spent time at professional kitchens in his spare time and on weekends. In 2012, he left his legal career to move back to India to reconnect with Indian food and pursue a career in hospitality. A year later, after marrying Sunaina Sethi, Karan moved back to London where he then joined her family’s business, JKS Restaurants. Karan setup Hoppers, a Sri Lankan and South Indian Restaurant on Frith Street, with the Sethi siblings in 2015 and now oversees both back and front of house operations at both the Soho and St Christopher’s Place Location.
