Executive Chef of highly acclaimed Jamavar London, Rohit Ghai has forged a highly successful career, having lead several Indian Michelin starred kitchens, including most recently, Gymkhana, Trishna, Verandah in Copenhagen and Benares.
Originally from Madhya Pradesh, India, Rohit was captivated by food from a young age, learning to cook with his mother. Beginning his career cooking in hotels and restaurants close to his home, he learnt about the many different regional cuisines of the country before moving to London in 2008 to work with Atul Kochar at his Michelin-starred restaurant Benares. After five years at Benares, Rohit then took on Head Chef roles at Michelin-starred restaurants, Trishna and Gymkhana.
In December 2016, Rohit opened Jamavar as Executive Chef, alongside founders Samyukta Nair and her father, Dinesh. Jamavar is the 6th restaurant and the first overseas outpost from the Leela Palaces, a group of luxury hotels across India. The menu showcases Rohit’s love of dishes from both the Royal kitchens of Northern India and the coastal cuisine from the Southern states, exploring pan-Indian flavours using a range of authentic cooking techniques. In 2017 Jamavar was awarded its first Michelin star.
In November 2017, Samyukta Nair and Rohit will launch their second restaurant, Bombay Bustle on Maddox Street, which will be inspired by the Dabbawalas, the institution of men who use Mumbai’s famed local railway to deliver home cooked meals across the city.
